FROM DIAGNOSIS TO TREATMENT: CLINICAL MANAGEMENT OF TEMPOROMANDIBULAR DISORDERS AND BRUXISM WITH SPLINT AND BOTOX APPLICATIONS
CONFERENCE & WORKSHOP

The aim of this conference is to expand the vision of dentists beyond intraoral structures such as teeth and surrounding tissues, drawing attention to the temporomandibular joints (TMJ) and masticatory muscles, which are other components of the stomatognathic system, as well as the parafunction of bruxism and temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The presentation will address the types of intra-articular temporomandibular disorders, diagnostic symptoms, and clinical findings. The key element of a successful treatment involves identifying the factors causing intra-articular irregularities and taking preventive measures. The most common cause of intra-articular irregularities is excessive load on the joint due to macro trauma and/or micro trauma (parafunctions such as bruxism). There will be discussions on occlusal splint therapy, the first treatment option for bruxism and TMD. In addition to occlusal splints, the role of the increasingly popular botox applications in the treatment of bruxism and TMD will also be discussed. The diagnosis and treatment process of bruxism and TMD will be explained through cases.
