CURRENT PROTOCOLS IN PHASE 1 AND PHASE 2 TREATMENTS FOR TMR

The initial treatment of TMR includes non-invasive (Phase 1) methods such as occlusal splints and supportive therapies. This allows for testing occlusal-condylar balance and optimal dental contacts without creating permanent changes in patients. However, occlusal discrepancies and disorders may occur after non-invasive treatments. In such cases, it may be necessary to resort to invasive and irreversible treatment options. These invasive treatments, referred to as Phase 2 treatments, may involve surgical, orthodontic, and prosthetic treatments, sometimes combined or applied individually. The learning objectives of this presentation are to explore evidence-based changes in non-invasive treatments, manage decisions for invasive treatments following Phase 1 treatments, observe examples of prosthetic invasive treatments first in the mouth and then in application, and learn the indications and basic principles of surgical treatments.
